[Intro]
The Second Amendment Sisters is an all volunteer advocacy group for women using grass root efforts to keep the Second Amendment intact. Although it’s a group for women and run by women it’s for men too, the Second Amendment isn’t just for the ladies after all.
I volunteered with SAS because of their no compromise stand on the Second Amendment. I firmly believe the Second Amendment is the one that ties them all together and gives the rest teeth. The Second Amendment is an affirmation of the basic human right to self defense, whether it be in the home, on the streets, or against tyranny, it is our right as ‘We the People’ to defend ourselves, family and country.
Why is the Second Amendment so important? And does the Constitution affirm our right to self defense? I believe it does. The start of the Revolutionary war wasn’t just about taxes. The turning point came when the colonists drew a line in the sand and that line had to do with a decree that was put out by the king for all “subjects” to be disarmed. They were to turn in their guns or they would remove them by force. The shot heard around the world had everything to do with disarming the people. Armed men and women are free people, citizens. Unarmed people are subjects. We have to decide, are we subjects? Or are we free people, American citizens.
The right of self-defense is
the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to
confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever the right of
the people to keep and bear arms is, under any color or pretext whatsoever,
prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of
destruction......-- St. George Tucker, founding father, Revolutionary War hero,
Justice of the Virginia Supreme Court, and federal judge under President James
Madison
The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. It was put into place to keep us free.
Here are a few facts to consider if we allow ourselves to be disarmed.
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control.
From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend
Themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.-----
In 1911, Turkey established gun control.
From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves,
Were rounded up and exterminated.----
Germany established gun control in 1938
From 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were
Unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.-----
China established gun control in 1935.
From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend
Themselves, were rounded up and exterminated-----
Guatemala established gun control in 1964.
From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend
Themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.----
Uganda established gun control in 1970.
From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves,
Were rounded up and exterminated.----
Cambodia established gun control in 1956.
From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend
Themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.----
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of
gun control: 56 million.-----
Since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to
surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own Government, a
program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first
year results are now in:
1: Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent.
2: Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent..
3: Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)
In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent.
Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not,
and criminals still possess their guns!
During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!
Gun free zones equal killing zones. You have the right to defend yourself where ever you have the legal right to be. The Second Amendment affirms that. If you allow your rights to be compromised away, you will lose them. Never give in to compromises.
By the way, the British have called, they want their guns back. Crime has risen to new levels since the banning of their guns and right to defend themselves. They make criminals out of people who do defend themselves and let the criminals go free, it’s not making much sense there anymore.
Our Supreme Court ruled in favor of Dick Heller and said that the Second Amendment does mean the right of individuals to keep and bear arms, but Dick Heller still can’t possess a gun to defend himself in D.C. How sad it is when city councils ignore the highest court of the land, the highest law of the land and impose their illegal laws on law abiding citizens? We the people need to draw that line in the sand again and stop the degrading of America and restore the Bill of Rights back to it’s original intent which was to protect the rights of the people and to keep our government in check and within certain bounds.
Never give up on staying in touch with our reps, keep them accountable and within the bounds of the Constitution and constantly remind them, they work for us. They are to represent us.
The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson. With guns, we are 'citizens'. Without them, we're 'subjects'.
The Betsy Ross of yesterday sewed the flag together; it’s up to the Betsy Ross’s of today to help keep it from falling apart.
