Letter to Channel 5

 

 I have a complaint about your story aired on January 31, 2008, titled “Weapons Easy to Get; Traffickers Go Unpunished,” reported by Sean Kelly. When silly gun-ban fanatics like John Rosenthal say “We are surrounded by Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont where you don't even need an id or a background check to buy a gun,” I smile and wonder why it is that Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont have between 65 and 75% LESS violent crime than Massachusetts (see FBI statistics).  Maybe an armed citizenry keeps the criminals at bay? 

Your story was a completely one-sided display of journalistic political action. Not once in the story did the reporter cite the federal laws that require background checks for out of state purchases. Nor did Kelly interview anyone from my side.
