Introduction to Shooting for Women

On June 24th, the Maine Chapter of Second Amendment Sisters conducted an Introduction to Shooting for Women clinic.  The event was part of Kittery Trading Post's annual weeklong Junefest celebration and a follow up to Genie Jenning's How and Why to Teach Women and Girls to Shoot Friday night seminar at KTP.  KTP sponsored the event and the South Berwick Rod and Gun Association hosted the shooters at their range.  Ladies from around New England received instruction in gun safety and had the chance to try a variety of handguns, rifles, and shotguns before being treated to a lobster lunch.  Some of the participants were handling firearms for the first time, while others had shot before and were seeking a refresher course, more instruction, or the chance to try other shooting disciplines.

Kittery Trading Post provided loaner guns, a firearms consultant, targets, safety equipment, and offered attendees a special discount at their store.  South Berwick Rod and Gun Association provided use of the ranges and clubhouse and several of their members volunteered as instructors and support staff.  The Maine SAS Chapter coordinated the event, providing instructors, materials, and additional guns and ammunition.  Several ladies (and an affiliated gentleman) from the Massachusetts SAS chapter, some of whom are NRA certified instructors, made the trip north to teach and brought along their guns for the ladies to try. Take home instructional materials were prepared and hanging targets specially constructed for the event.

As always, the event was very popular and the Maine SAS Chapter and Kittery Trading Post will continue to offer similar seminars to the ladies of New England.
