Lakeway, TX - SAS RALLY IN DC SUPPORTING HELLER HEARING!
Second Amendment Sisters will hold a peaceful assembly outside the Supreme Court Building on March 18, 2008, while the Court hears arguments in DC v. Heller.
This case is about only the right of an individual to keep a workable firearm in his domicile. It does not address carrying a firearm, either concealed or openly, on the streets of the city. It does not address the legality of the city to limit the use of firearms in the city. This case addresses the constitutionality of the city to override the Second Amendment rights of individuals to keep and bear arms. The city's 1975 handgun ban has made it extremely difficult for law-abiding citizens to defend themselves and their families. All handguns have been illegal unless they had been registered before the law took effect. Legal firearms must be kept unloaded and disassembled or, if assembled, disabled by some means. If this prohibitive law is found unconstitutional, for the first time in three decades residents of the nation's capital will be allowed to have an effective means of protection within their homes.
Second Amendment Sisters, represented by Southeastern Legal Foundation, Inc. (www.southeasternlegal.org), has filed an amicus brief with the Court. Our brief addresses how laws such as the one in question impact specific groups: women, the elderly and the physically disabled.
"When the government strips the individual rights from these groups' members, evidence shows that they, more than others, are vulnerable to predators because they are perceived to be weak. "Advocating on behalf of women, the elderly and the physically disabled the amici herein argue the actions of the District of Columbia have harmed the members of society most physically vulnerable to criminal attack."
Self-defense is a basic human right. We have a right to life. We have a right to defend that life and the lives of those around us. We have a right to the means to do so. If we are denied the means to protect our life, we are denied life itself.
Tuesday, March 18, 2008 will be an historic date. We urge all pro-human rights, pro-liberty, pro-gun, and pro-Second Amendment citizens to join us as we hold vigil during these momentous hearings. We will meet at 10:00 am.
