July 24, 2008 Ladies Learn and Shoot Day!
"Early morning, about 7:30am, on July 24th, SAS of TN hosted a Ladies Shoot & Learn Day. It was a small group, with 9 ladies present. One of those, Karen Yatuzis, a SAS member, also, came out to help me keep things moving! The group was a mix of newbies and experienced, so the day progessed along quite well at each own's pace. We shot about 100 or so rounds, up until our final competition....actually we had a practice competition, with the "crow" targets first, to really give them sight alignment practice, then we had our poker shoot, with the poke targets.
Karen won First place, with Renorva, who's been to a previous shoot, coming in 2nd, and Nicole, fairly new, coming in 3rd! She brought her mom, too, and they both had their own guns, so they knew a little, anyway! Melissa and Anna received "Most Improved Shooters" of the day. These two gals showed more confidence and shot better as the day went on! All of these gals received a certificate.
The ladies "brown bagged" their lunch, and during this time, I gave out door prizes to everyone. As the day wore on, we got through about 2pm. The day turned from a beautiful morning to a rather warm afternoon with no breeze. Since the breeze quit, we were ready to quit, too!! I got a few invitations to talk to some women's groups around the area, from some of the ladies, so I'm looking forward to hearing from them and getting that set up!
The ladies left with a confident feeling in handling their guns, and some even learned that the gun they had was not quite the gun for them! We're so glad we could help!
I want to thank Buford Tune and his Staff at Academy of Personal Protection and Security, for supplying extra ammo, guns, ears, eyes and targets, not to mention the wonderful instructions. I'm looking forward to setting a date for my next shoot!
Keep on Shootin'

On May 17th, 2007, SAS of TN held a Ladies Shoot. Eighteen ladies came out on this beautiful day to hone in on their skills, with only a couple still in the learning phase! Our Range Master, Buford Tune and his APPS staff did their usual great job of teaching and entertaining the girls throughout the morning and early afternoon.
After giving the safety talk and demonstrating loading and unloading and grips and sights, the women shot about 100 rounds to practice what they had been taught. After that, we took a breather, while Karen Yatuzis, a SAS member's husband, Larry, went and picked up some barbeque. There were 50 rounds left to be shot, and also the competition to go, so we asked the women to save 10 to 15 rounds for the "game"! It was a good thing, too, because we had to have a shoot off for 2nd and 3rd places!!
Our very own Karen Yatuzis won 1st place, and Barbara Ragland won 2nd, with new shooter Nikki Morton earning 3rd! They each got a certificate, along with 2 most improved shooters. These were two new shooters, Nikki, again and Chevene Herring, who did an awesome job of becoming more confident throughout the day with their shooting!
These gals had such a great time, along with door prizes won by almost everyone (until I ran out!) and great food and great fun, that we're going to get together soon at another local Tennessee Wildlife range just meet and shoot! SAS also gained 3 new members that day, with a couple more on their way!
We're looking forward to hosting another shoot, as soon as we can get the range again!!
This is what makes it all worth the effort!!
